The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (2 Ti 4:18; NIV)
If you were to read the verses before this one, you would find Paul telling Timothy that during his last defense, no one came to support him. In fact, everyone left him except for the Lord. The Lord stood by his side and gave him strength so he could proclaim the Lord's message.
How often are we found alone because everyone has left us? Or maybe I should say, we "think" we are alone because God is always with us. He is always there to give us strength, to guide us, and to help us carry on with our task. We should take great comfort in what Paul says in verse 18: "The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom." That's really powerful!
When I was in the military, I couldn't help but notice that in many cases where there was a fight, it was started by a small person picking on a larger person. Right away, this does not make sense, except for the fact that the smaller person would always have a larger one backing them up. This second person would always come alongside in the last seconds and rescue their friend in one way or another.
When it comes to this world, I may be 6 foot tall and weigh in at 210 lbs., but I am a small person, and I have the greatest backup that has ever been or will be. He's always with me no matter what. When I tell others about Christ, he is there giving me support and encouragement. I take great joy in knowing God has rescued me and will continue to do so until he sees me safely home in his kingdom.
When we are by ourselves, we are just one, but with God, we are never alone. Keep backing me up, Father!!
