LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Ps 8:9; NIV)
When we look back over time and think about all the great names of people who have walked this earth, we can come up with some great ones. Some left good marks on history while others left a bad make. Some of the names I came up with, in no particular order) Caesar, Washington, Columbus, Churchill, Hitler, Lincoln, Edison, Bell, Kennedy, Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul, John Glenn, John Wayne, and the list goes on and on. But there is only one name that deserves praise, and that is the name of our Lord. His name is majestic in all the earth!
Of all the inventors and creators that have lived or will ever live, none can compare with the Creator of the universe. What the Lord did at the beginning of time cannot nor will it ever be done by anyone else; the heavens and the earth, the plants and animals, man and woman, sun, moon, and stars. We may now know how to clone, but God started with nothing and created, no one has been able to do that.
When it comes to rulers and kings, He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Every ruler we have ever had could take lessons from him. He is a fair Judge and only gives out punishment when he really has to and then only after many warnings about what is to come. No one can stand in his way; he is the great Conqueror.
Compassion is a valuable asset, and our Lord has cornered the market on compassion. He loves us so much that he sent his one and only son to take our place in death. He shows his love for us in the way he has taken all the steps toward reconciliation even to the point of holding out his hand to us, the ones who do not deserve his love. All he asks is that we reach out and take his hand and accept the gift he has so freely given. He truly is magnificent!
O Lord, our Lord how majestic is your name in all the earth!
