28 September

The Israelites said to Gideon, “Rule over us—you, your son and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.”  But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you.”  (Jdg 8:22–23; NIV)

In order to be a leader, a man must have followers.  And to have followers, a man must have their confidence.  Hence the supreme quality of a leader is unquestionably integrity.  Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, on a football field, in an army, or in an office.  If a man's associates find him guilty of phoniness, if they find that he lacks forthright integrity, he will fail.  His teachings and actions must square with each other.  The first great need, therefore, is integrity and high purpose. (Dwight D. Eisenhower)

I find it kind of funny that mankind always wants a leader, yet the very best leader has always been there; God.  For some strange reason, most don't want God to be their leader, but I sure do.  It is easy to follow a leader who, as Eisenhower said, has integrity.  A definition of integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.  Sounds like God to me.  We know what he stands for, and that never changes.  Those that follow God find he is faithful and that he is always there.  You never have to make an appointment to see him because you are extremely important to God. What a leader he is!  When the children of Israel were leaving Egypt, God led them as a pillar of fire at night and a pillar of smoke by day.  He was always with them.

Today I know he is still with me at all times, I never have to look around to find him because he is right beside me.  When I'm scared, he goes before me to clear the way.  When I'm weak, he picks me up and carries me with his strength.  I believe this world would be a lot better off if we would put our trust and faith in the Creator of the universe for there is no one better to follow than the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the Great I AM, the Leader of leaders.
