Rest

8 October

“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.  Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.  The burden that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light.”  (Mt 11:28–30; NCV)

I tend to run on fumes most of the time.  I usually don't go to bed until sometime between 10:30 and midnight, and I'm almost always up by 3:30 am.  I just can't stay in bed any longer than four hours without waking to a lot of bodily pain.  I will run that way for a few weeks, then one day, I will sleep for 6-8 hours.  My body finally says that's enough, and I rest.  We all need times of refreshing, and some people refresh by taking a day off or going on vacation, or they go on retreats, go fishing, or maybe they go camping.  However it is done we all need some refreshing from time to time.

Most of us forget Jesus said we should come to him when we are tired and loaded down from life.  We think we are the only ones who should have to deal with our problems and burdens, but Jesus said that if we bring them to him, he will give us rest.  All we have to do is accept his teachings, which are easy enough for children to understand. Once we start doing this, we ill find rest for our lives.

We need to remind ourselves, some of us need to remind ourselves daily that Jesus wants to help us with our pressures and the daily grind.  Jesus wants to give us relief and peace of mind.  No one ever said, life was easy, but with Jesus,  it can be a lot easier.
