Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (Mt 4:8–10; NIV)
Satan is a crafty ol' bugger because he is still using this same temptation today. Why change it, it still works. There is always someone out there that wants the whole world and will do anything to get it. This includes bowing down and worshipping the king of lies. If only they understood that when you worship the Lord you receive so much more. What does it profit a man if he should gain the world yet lose his life?
Are there certain things we place above worshipping the Lord? I know in my own life from time to time it seemed that my priorities got mixed up and my spiritual life suffered. Now when I find myself in this situation I call on the one who can set me straight, the one who is always there for me and will always be. Once I get back to where I should be I find life is so much more worth living, and the life to ve will be even greater.
